MCA Entrance Test-2012

Admission Procedure: The admission will be done on the basis of merit in the entrance test to be conducted by HP University, Shimla

Seats: Subsidized seats 30+01 (reserved for a single child who is a girl)

Non-subsidized seats 15

Total seats in MCA course: 46

Duration: 3 years (6 semesters)

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST) from a University established by law in India, with Mathematics at +2 level; or BCA/B.Sc (IT)/B.Sc (Computer Science)/any graduate with computers as one of the subject in all the three years of graduation with at least 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST) from a University established by law in India

Age Limit: Maximum age limit for admission to MCA course is 26 years for general category, 29 years for SC/ST category and 28 years for girl candidates, as on the 01st July, 2012

The vice-chancellor may permit age relaxation up to a maximum of three months

Entrance Test: The admission to MCA course will be made on the basis of merit of the entrance examination (written test) conducted by Himachal Pradesh University

The written test will consist of one paper of 130 marks and of 2 hours duration and shall include the following four sections

General Logical Ability and Aptitude (40 marks), Mathematics of 10+2 level (50 marks), Basics of Computer and its Awareness (25 marks), General English (15 marks)

The minimum qualifying marks in the entrance examination (written test) for subsidized as well as non-subsidized seats will be 35%, 46 marks out of total of 130 marks

Centres for Entrance Test: The entrance test for admission to the MCA course shall be held at the following centres

HP University Campus, Summer Hill, Shimla, Govt College, Mandi, Govt College, Hamirpur, HP University Regional Centre, Dharamshala, Kangra

The University reserves the right to allot any examination centre to the candidate irrespective of the choice given by the candidate

Reservation

Subsidized Seats: 50% seats shall be reserved for the graduates of Himachal Pradesh University, or HP Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, or Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry and the remaining 50% seats, shall be filled from the open quota, in which the graduates of this University shall also be eligible to compete through competitive test

15% and 7.5% of the seats shall be reserved for bonafide Himachali SC/ST candidates respectively who have passed the qualifying examination from any University established by law in India which is equivalent to the qualifying examination of HP University

One supernumerary seat shall be reserved for Himachali bonafide only child who is a girl

In this respect, an affidavit issued by a competent authority shall have to be submitted

Non-Subsidized Seats: The eligibility for admission to the courses against these seats will be the same as provided for other candidates

The admission to these seats will be made on the merit of marks obtained in the entrance test

The non-subsidized seats will be filled with 75% seats being reserved for graduates of universities located in Himachal Pradesh and 25% seats being open for graduates of any university including universities of Himachal Pradesh

In case seats in the category of graduates of university of Himachal Pradesh remain unfilled, these may be filled out of the applicants belonging to the other category

If any non-subsidized and supernumerary seat remains unfilled, it will lapse and will not be merged with the subsidized seats

Application Submission: (For both subsidized and Non-subsidized seats) Duly filled in application form, fee (in the form of demand draft/IPO), Admit Card along with postage stamps of Rs 6/- affixed on it on the space provided must reach the Chairman, Dept of Computer Science, HP University, Shimla-5 by the last date fixed for the purpose

The fee deposited will not be refundable under any circumstances

The applicants are required to submit the fee in the form of a demand draft or IPO of Rs 650/- for general category and Rs 325/- for SC/ST/IRDP/Antodaya in favour of Chairman, Dept of Computer Science, HP University, Shimla payable at Shimla

The candidate should write his/her name and father’s name on the back of the demand draft as well as IPOs

The candidate should specifically mention in the application form that whether she/he is interested for subsidized seats or Non-subsidized seats or both type of seats

Merely appearing in the entrance exam does not entitle the candidate for the right to admission unless the candidate fulfills the eligibility criteria for admission to the MCA course

The candidate has to submit duly attested copies of the following certificates at the time of attending the counseling; Proof of age (matriculation/10th class certificate), 10+2 certificate; Graduation certificate; Category certificate SC/ST/IPDP/Antodaya, if applicable; Single girl child affidavit, if applicable; HP Bonafide certificate in case of SC/ST candidates

It will be the entire responsibility of the candidates to procure the prospectus well in time and submit the application form complete in all respects within the stipulated date and time

The university will not be responsible for any postal delay for non-receipt or in case of misplacement or loss of application form in transit

Important Dates

Last date for the receipt of application forms: 02nd May, 2012, Wednesday, 5.00 p.m.

Date of Entrance Test: 28th May, 2012, Monday, 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Date of declaration of result: 14th June, 2012, Tuesday

The schedule for interviews/admission to subsidized seats: 02nd July, 2012, Monday

Last date for Admission against the vacant/vacated seats (if any): 14th July, 2012, Saturday

Admission with the permission of the vice-chancellor, the dead line for closing admission even, if seat remain vacant for MCA course (for both subsidized and non-subsidized): 31st July, 2012, Tuesday

The schedule for interview/admission to non-subsidized seats: 09th July, 2012, Monday

The schedule for interview/admission to Private Colleges Affiliated to HP University will be held in the department of Computer Science, HP University, Shimla: 16th July, 2012, Monday; 20th July, 2012, Friday; 24th July, 2012, Tuesday; 30th July, 2012, Monday

The candidates will be called for interviews/admissions in order of merit in the ratio 1:3 times of vacant seats

The applicant called for interview shall be clearly mentioned in the merit list displayed on the website http://hpucs.ac.in, or http://hpuniv.nic.in
