Bases and Uses of bases in our daily lives

A base is a substance that, in aqueous solution, is slippery to touch, tastes bitter, and changes the colour of indicators (e.g., turns red litmus paper blue), reacts with acids to form salts, and promotes certain chemical reactions (base catalysis).

It is used as a processing aid in thousands of food and beverage products.

Aluminum hydroxide uses:

To treat symptoms of increased stomach acid, such as heartburn, upset stomach, sour stomach, or acid indigestion.
