The full form of IGST is Integrated Goods and Service Tax. It is a category that falls under the Goods and Service Tax (GST). It is a type of tax levied on supplies of goods as well as interstate transactions. These are taxable when the goods are being imported as well. The Indian Govt. is in charge of collecting IGST. Further, it distributes it among the respective states. When the products move from one state to another, the IGST is charged on them. Both state and central govt share it. However, the states do not share IGST with other states in order to settle the interstate amount of taxes between them. IGST came into existence after the Central Sales Tax (CST) Act, 1956 was abolished. With this, the integrity of Input tax credit tax between different taxes is maintained.
