Work overload won’t allow CBSE to conduct UGC NET in June-Report

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it categorically clear that due to work overload, it may not be able to conduct the National Eligibility Test (NET) in June.

The board has expressed its inability to conduct the exam in June through a letter to the Human Resource & Development (HRD) ministry.

The previous edition of the exam was conducted by the CBSE on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in December. The HRD ministry had assigned the responsibility to CBSE to ensure that the exam was administered smoothly in a flawless and transparent manner.

According to HRD ministry sources, CBSE has lost confidence after its ex-chairman Vineet Joshi left in November 2014. Meanwhile, the UGC sources have confirmed that it will conduct NET on its own if there are no alternatives.

NET is held twice a year – in June and December. It screens candidates for Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor.

CBSE handles the responsibilities of administering the Class X and XII exams, alongside entrance exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, AIPMT, and Central Teacher’s Eligibility Test (CTET).
