The University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) have confirmed the cancellation of three subjects from this year’s Combined Entrance Test, UIET PG CET 2014 which is conducted for admission to post graduate courses. The decision by UIET to exclude three subjects from PG CET list resulted in removal of IT, Computer Science and Electronics and Engineering.
Students take the CET exam every year for enrolling themselves to various courses offered by about 30 odd colleges in the city of Chandigarh and in Punjab. Students will now be admitted on the basis of their performance in the national level Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering for the above subjects.
AS Ahluwalia, the coordinator for CET has confirmed that the CET PG examination will include 38 subjects this year. Although three subjects have been dropped by the University Institute of Engineering and Technology, another five have been added by the National Institute of Teachers Training and Research. The five subjects include ME electronics and communication, ME electrical engineering and instrumentation control, ME computer science and engineering, ME in civil engineering in construction technology and management and ME in mechanical engineering.
Last year, approximately 20,000 students from various parts of the country had taken the examination which was conducted in 35 centers across the city. This year, the test is scheduled to be held from the 13th of June to 16th of the same month.
Renu Vig, Director, UIET confirmed that admission through the national level GATE examination help students to acquire the scholarships that are offered under the exam. This has also been cited as the main reason for dropping the subjects.
Officials also confirmed the opening of help desk by the PU at different colleges across Punjab and Chandigarh to help students submit their forms online. The last date for form submission is 20th May and students can access the prospectus along with other important details at cetpg.puchd.ac.in.
