UGC to launch Online Students Grievance Redressal Portal

The University Grants Commission on the verge of launching an ‘Online Students Grievance Redressal Portal’ for its students at universities and other affiliated colleges. This portal will present the students with the option of submitting and registering their grievances related to admissions, unfair practices and other issues and UGC is all set to facilitate this process.

“The portal would enable the commission and the universities/colleges to understand the nature of students’ grievances, monitor and redress the same within a short time. It will also help in taking policy decisions and implement the same to mitigate such grievances,” said Jaspal S Sanghu, Secretary, UGC in the notices sent to the vice-chancellors of all universities.

It was also mentioned in the notice, how the students need to appoint a person-in-charge of the redressal cell as the Nodal Officer. The Nodal Officer will be responsible for the monitoring of the complaints/ grievances by the students and also to responding to them. The University will be required to send out the details of the Nodal Officer to the UGC within 10 days at sgportalugc@gmail.com.

The problems to be reported can range from the irregularities in the conduct of admissions, unfair practices adopted by the institutions, ragging, issues related to inadequate infrastructure, hostel and refractory facilities, etc. The portal will aim at not only noting and solving of the problems/ grievances of the students but also in turn making sure that these aren’t repeated.

Sir, I was a B Tech civil engineering student of Amity university Maneser Gurgaon Haryana from year 2010 to 2014. University is adopted two types grading system calculate the SGPA/CGPA. One is normal grading system for where class strength is less than 30 and other is relative grading system where is class strength is above 30. Sir my class strength is 34 and accordingly my SGPA/CGPA is calculated based on relative grading system. But sir as per this system my 8th semester CGPA 5.82 whereas as per normal grading system it is comes 6.56 and average of all eight semesters is 61.40%. In this regard I was requested to university to adopt normal grading system so that I will get 6.56 CGPA but university is not give any response. Sir I want to know can a university adopt 2 different grading system as per the class strength and is it justice for a student like me. In one case my CGPA is 5.82 which spoil my hole life and another case it is 6.56 which spark my life. Sir you are requested to instruct Amity university Panchgaon Maneser Gurgaon Haryana to adopt one grading system i.e. normal grading system as guide lines issued by UGC in Year 2010.
