The University Grants Commission on the verge of launching an ‘Online Students Grievance Redressal Portal’ for its students at universities and other affiliated colleges. This portal will present the students with the option of submitting and registering their grievances related to admissions, unfair practices and other issues and UGC is all set to facilitate this process.
“The portal would enable the commission and the universities/colleges to understand the nature of students’ grievances, monitor and redress the same within a short time. It will also help in taking policy decisions and implement the same to mitigate such grievances,” said Jaspal S Sanghu, Secretary, UGC in the notices sent to the vice-chancellors of all universities.
It was also mentioned in the notice, how the students need to appoint a person-in-charge of the redressal cell as the Nodal Officer. The Nodal Officer will be responsible for the monitoring of the complaints/ grievances by the students and also to responding to them. The University will be required to send out the details of the Nodal Officer to the UGC within 10 days at email@example.com.
The problems to be reported can range from the irregularities in the conduct of admissions, unfair practices adopted by the institutions, ragging, issues related to inadequate infrastructure, hostel and refractory facilities, etc. The portal will aim at not only noting and solving of the problems/ grievances of the students but also in turn making sure that these aren’t repeated.
