University Grants Commission (UGC) asks Universities to issue degrees within 180 days
The University Grants Commission (UGC)
has ordered all the Universities in India to issue degrees to students within 180 days
of qualifying for the degree. It also commented that withholding a student’s degree could lead to lesser possibilities of getting a job or pursuing higher education.
Also, it warned that any violation of the said rule will lead to withdrawal of grants and status of University. The move comes after the Commission received several complaints regarding some Universities failing to issue degrees to the students in time due to which many of them were unable to get admission in further courses within the admission deadlines.
The UGC has the unique distinction of being the only grant-giving agency in the country which has been vested with two responsibilities: that of providing funds and that of coordination, determination and maintenance of standards in institutions of higher education.
