Putting the speculation about the National Eligibility Test to rest the University Grants Commission had decided NET 2017 will be conducted by CBSE in July. While the official notification UGC NET 2017 is yet to be released by the CBSE, the HRD ministry had to intervene because of the conflict between the CBSE and UGC regarding the conduction of NET.
According to a source, the CBSE has stretched its resources. The board has to set question papers for 86 subjects. CBSE incurs a loss of 5 crore every year for conducting the NET twice a year as reported by the Financial Express.
The National Eligibility Test is conducted twice a year by CBSE on behalf of UGC to determine the eligibility of candidates for lectureship and award of Junior Research Fellowship. CBSE approached the HRD ministry in 2016 to express its inability to conduct the NET due to the overload of other exams like National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), Central Teachers’ Eligibility Test, JEE-Main and the board exams for affiliated schools. CBSE conducts the class 10 and class 12 board exams due to the absence of any other National Testing Agency.
However, after a meeting with the officials of HRD ministry, UGC had decided that the NET will be conducted by the CBSE in July 2017. The system of conducting the NET will continue till the National Testing Service is set up by the government.
The official notification for the UGC NET 2017 is expected to be released by May 10 as reported by the India.com. This will give NET aspirants a huge relief and clear the confusion regarding the conduct of NET examination. The official notification will be released on the CBSE official website cbse.nic.in.
