The University Grants Commission has announced a hike in the basic fellowship amount and scholarships with the vision of encouraging research scholars to focus on quality work.

According to a statement by the UGC, starting today the Junior Research Fellowship (JRS) will receive a monthly fellowship amount of INR 25,000 – a stiff 56 per cent hike from the earlier amount of INR 16,000 per month.

Similarly, the Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) scholars will receive a monthly fellowship package of INR 28,000 – INR 10,000 increase from the earlier amount.
