Teachers not to be Deployed for Non-Educational Purposes

sasi_tharoorDr. Shashi Tharoor, HRD Minister has said that no teacher shall be deployed for non-educational purposes other than the population census, duties relating to elections to the local authority or the State Legislatures or Parliament, as per the Right to Education Act (RTE), 2009.

Tharoor said that National Knowledge Commission has also recommended that the imposition of a wide range of non-teaching duties, such as that of manning poll booths and collecting data for surveys etc., cuts into the available teaching time and also undermines the professional status of teachers.

Teachers not to be Deployed for Non-Educational Purposes. He further said that these activities should be shared out among a wider range of public employees or even those hired specifically for the purpose and the burden of such work on teachers must be reduced.

    well, finally somebody thinking about teachers – Election Duty is the most common duty teachers are supposed to do other than teaching. Also Government in various States use teachers for various activities other than teaching

    It is really a commendable approach. Teachers are already overloaded with their duty hours in school. Moreover, they are in the profession of using their brain for the development of others’ brains. So they honestly deserve a serene atmosphere of brain to give their best to the students.
