The MCI, in an earlier meeting, had given its consent to the proposal of conducting the fifth batch admission in the college. However, in April, the MCI had opposed the idea of granting approval to the State-owned IGGMCRI for medical admission. The reason behind this opposition, according to MCI, was inadequate faculty in the institute amongst many other reasons.
The announcement that the UT would soon switch over was made by the Chief Minister after releasing the SSLC results. It should be noted that the implementation of the plan is to be done in phases; to begin with, 167 schools would be shifted to this pattern for Classes I onwards.
