The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, has decided to set up multiple centres across the state to conduct the Punjab PMET 2016 exam, scheduled for May 15 this year
Raising a question mark on the quality of education in the Punjab state dental colleges, only 60% candidates were able to clear the 4-year BDS course exit exam in 2015. A student is eligible for internship only after clearing this exam. It means 40% students in Punjab dental colleges fail to qualify for internship.
Apparently, there are few takers of BDS seats as most of the candidates who cleared the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) have already opted for MBBS. As a result, following the first round of counseling, the university conducted a special test on August 24, 2014 to fill the BDS seats that remained vacant. However, that hardly made the situation any better.
As per the latest notification by DMER Punjab, a candidate who has not passed his Class X examination from a school situated in Punjab can now appear for the examination provided the attach an affidavit that they do originally belong to the state of Punjab and have not he/she has not obtained admission to Medical/Dental College of any other State except Punjab and All India Quota nor has applied for/obtained benefit of bonafide residence in any other State except State of Punjab.
