The students in CBSE schools and Kendriya Vidyalaya may have to study Hindi till class 10 with the President’s nod on the recommendations of a Parliamentary panel in this regard.
The Human Resource and Development (HRD) ministry has also received instructions to consult the state governments to frame a policy for making the Hindi language mandatory till class 10 in CBSE affiliated schools. HRD Ministry should make serious efforts in order to make the Hindi language mandatory.
The recommendations for making Hindi compulsory till class 10 were made in the ninth report of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language. Earlier in 2016, CBSE had suggested a three-language formula—English and any two Indian languages to be expanded to classes 9 and 10. However, the HRD ministry is yet to take the final decision on the suggestion.
