Stop offering Engineering courses through Distance Learning–UGC warns Universities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has warned the Universities and Institutes to stop offering professional courses in Engineering and Technology through Open and Distance learning (ODL) mode.

As per the Public Notice issued by UGC states that only Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Computer Applications (MCA) can be provided through distance learning mode.

AICTE in 2010 and 2011 also notified its policy not to recognize the qualification acquired through distance education mode at diploma, bachelors and masters level in the field of engineering and technology, including architecture, town planning, pharmacy, hotel management and catering technology, applied arts and crafts and post graduate diploma in management (PGDM).

UGC has warned that UGC/AICTE will take action against those universities/ institutions which are conducting professional courses in Engineering and Technology in ODL mode (other than MBA and MCA). UGC will not consider any request offered by any University/Institution for ODL programmes.
