SC keen on bringing LLB on par with MBBS & BTech
The Supreme Court is keen in bringing LLB degree on a par with MBBS and BTech degrees.
A bench comprising of Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice U Lalit said that educational system is crying for reforms and they must do something.
What the Apex Court considers:-
- There was a general feeling that students get enrolled in LLB courses when they didn’t get admission into other professional streams.
- If students do not get into MBBS or BTech courses, they join LLB. Legal profession should not be a free for all profession. So, it needs to be reformed.
- Any addition to the pool of legal professionals must be talented and of good quality.
- Administration of justice is as important as the profession of a doctor.
Though SC questioned the statutory force behind the Bar Council of India’s decision to hold All India Bar Examination, it said in principle it was not against the screening test as there was a dire need to weed out non -serious persons from joining the law profession.
The AIBE (All India Bar Exam) will go on as scheduled. SC wants to strengthen the system, and is not reluctant to the examination system.
