Over 30,000 to take AIEEE Exam on May 11 : CBSE

Over 30,000 students who could not take the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) on May 1 after a question paper leak will now take the test on May 11 amid heightened security and candidate verification, reports the Hindustan Times. Battling a cluttered competitive examination schedule and concerns that cheats may try to misuse the retest, the Central Board of Secondary Education on Monday decided against holding the AIEEE re-examination on May 8 as it had announced on Sunday.

The decision to delay the re-test was taken after the CBSE received scores of petitions from parents and students complaining of a clash with other competitive examinations on May 8, Board chairman Vineet Joshi said.

These include the Karnataka common entrance test COMEDK for engineering, medical and dental colleges.

“May 11 is a working day, but we have no choice given the clash with other examinations,” Joshi said, assuring that the May 11 question paper will be of the same standard than the test taken by most students on May 1.

The board is also worried that some candidates who gained insight into the standard and types of questions by taking the AIEEE on May 1 may take the May 11 test instead of genuine candidates – to boost scores for a fee.

The CBSE is putting in place additional security measures.

The CBSE has also constituted a panel of experts consisting of its controller of examinations MC Sharma, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur professor Falguni Gupta and former Delhi University controller of examinations BS Garg to probe the leak.
