The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has restarted the online education portal ‘eGyanKosh’, which provided authentic educational notes to the students. After having closed for a few months in between, the website has been started again.
In the month of June, 2015, the HRD Ministry asked IGNOU to restart the online education programme e-GyanKosh, which was stopped in 2013 allegedly by Vice Chancellor M Aslam. Further, it was asked that it should be integrated with the SAKSHAT programme for seamless access of content with national digital library and the massive open online courses.
The shutdown not only led to a waste of Rs 20 crore but also deprived the facility to lakhs of students particularly those in the remote regions of the country, the foreign students of IGNOU and the members of the Indian Armed Forces who are pursuing IGNOU programmes.
According to a report, IGNOU has reactivated the portal recently. Keeping in mind the need of the students, the website gives one month free trail to the students who need it urgently and cannot bear expenses. The website charges a minimal amount to access the university’s important notes.
