NEET 2018 negative marking leads to stress among students

National Board of Examination- NBE’s assertion for Negative Marking for NEET 2018 for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in medicine has brought about a stress and panic amongst the aspirants. These students preparing for next year’s National Eligibility and entrance test, screening test.


Approximately 3 lakh students form Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are undergoing tough coaching for the most difficult screening test they will have to do.
In the backdrop of the negative marking, the coaching will obviously be more rigorous, putting the candidates to more hardship.


Recently the NBE passed a notice a that the ‘correct response’ will help candidates score four marks for each question while ‘incorrect response’ will make them forgo one mark for every wrong answer from their score on hand. if the candidate leaves a question out there will be no loss of marks.


Last NEET exam did not have any negative marking.


According to Dr Nanda Kishore, member of MCI the idea of negative marking will add stress for the candidates but it will also eliminate non serious students.


The leading corporate colleges are reportedly charging Rs 2 lakh per year for each Plus-Two student seeking medical admission through Neet. Besides, long-term coaching is offered for those who failed to make it to the admissions through the Neet for a fee of Rs 2 lakh-Rs 2.5 lakh for each student, it is learnt.



The Student Federation of India (SFI) state leader Bhagawan feels that NEET’s latest condition affirmed for negative marking will make students more vulnerable to stress. sometimes they can be extremely negative, leading to disappointments and suicidal tendencies amongst students, which has been of late manifesting in the corporate colleges. According to him negative marking should be scrapped.
