Just a little before Sunday’s IIT-JEE, IIT Kanpur have gone back on their promise to put up the correct answers to the questions on the exam website within two to three days of the test.
IIT Kanpur, which is conducting the exam this year, has issued a press release saying the correct answers would be uploaded on the JEE website after May 15.
IIT Kanpur director S.G. Dhande, at a news conference on March 26, had announced that the correct answers would be displayed on the JEE site within 48 to 72 hours of the examination.
“It would have been better if the correct answers had been put up within two to three days. At least we would have known how we had fared. Now we will know 35 days after the test. This is frustrating,” a candidate said.
Dhande was not available for comment. Directors of other IITs also did not want to speak on the matter.
Nearly 4.85 lakh candidates have registered for the IIT-JEE this year.
An IIT insider said the answers are prepared along with the question papers. If the IIT so wishes, it can put up the answers on the website on the day of the test itself after verification by experts. Under no circumstances should the process take 35 days, the insider said. The U-turn assumes significance as the conduct of the IIT-JEE has come under the Supreme Court’s scrutiny. The organisers of the JEE have decided to put up the scanned images of the ORS on the website after declaration of the results on May 25.
