IIMs incorporate major changes in CAT 2014

Students can now start striking the days off their calendar as the Indian Institute of Management have announced the Common Admission Test. The CAT 2014 will be held during the two day window (Four sessions) on November 16 and November 22, 2014. The examination will be conducted by IIM- Indore again this year.

The aspirants are in for a big surprise as there have been some considerable changes in the examination this year. The changes by IIMs have been made by in order to make the paper more student friendly. We are listing below the changes for CAT 2014

  1. The duration of the examination has been increased from 140 minutes to 170 minutes.
  2. There has also been an increase in the questions in quantitative ability and data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning; which have now been increased to 50 in each section from the existing 30 questions.
  3. The CAT conducting body has notified students to go through the tutorials from the website well in advance as, the tutorial which was made available before start of examination, has been discontinued from this time.
  4. While applying making payment for the registration fee will only be done through the online mode and only by credit card, debit card or through net banking.
  5. Candidates will be provided, from this year, the option of spending time as per their choice on the each section during the test as they will be able to switch from one section to another during the examination timing.
  6. Also the window period for holding the test has been shortened and will only be made available on November 16 and 22.
  7. In comparison to the 45 test sites; the CAT will be held in 99 cities this year in 354 test sites. Also the aspirants will be provided the option of filling their three options for preference of test cities.

The notification states that, “The candidates need not rush in the initial registration days for blocking their slots and sites. Candidates will be given their first preferred city across the four sessions on random basis as far as possible. Candidates will have no option to prefer the dates as it will be allotted by the CAT Centre randomly.”

The registration for CAT 2014 is to remain open for 56 day; from August 6, 2014 to September 30, 2014. The students will be able to download their admit card from October 16 onwards till the day of the examination.

The results are expected to be declared in the third week of December 2014.

Since there have been many discrepancies and controversies with the ongoing results, that landed IIMs in the court, the contract with Prometric to conduct CAT has been terminated. Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) will be taking over for the same. TCS also conducted examination like GATE, JEE, AIPMT, JIPMER etc.
