The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmadabad has modified the formula for calculating the Application Rating (AR) in the initial shortlisting process. Less weight age has been given to work experience while selecting candidates for its next batch thus granting a level-playing field to fresh graduates seeking an entry.
Also the next batch , the 2014-16 PGP batch may find students from commerce, arts and humanities, agriculture or science as the primer management Institute has decided to change its set of admission rules to get students from other backgrounds apart from engineering, as reported by Economic Times
Change has been made in the formula for calculating application rating (AR) and a provision to direct shortlist students to written analysis and personal interview (WA-PI) for top performers in the five academic categories has been included — for the first time at the IIMA.
“To recognise exceptional performers across diverse academic backgrounds, top 50 candidates or top one per cent of the number of applicants to IIM Ahmedabad within each category — whichever is lower — will be identified.
These candidates will be directly shortlisted for the WA-PI on the basis of their total scores from CAT 2013, provided they meet the criteria of minimum percentile,” read a note from the admission committee.
According to the institute, over 96% of students in the 2012-14 and 2013-15 batches had studied engineering due to which the formula for calculating application ratings has been changed.
