Union HRD minister Smriti Irani on Facebook said that the government will unveil a new education policy soon. The Minister interacted with the internet users on facebook for an hour and replied to a question on updating the National Curriculum Framework. She said that “It can only be revised once the new education policy comes”.
She added that the ministry has prepared a cabinet note for upgrading Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad to an IIT. In response to the questions related to NEET, she said that the matter fell within the jurisdiction of the Health Ministry and it would be unfair to speak anything on NEET issue.
In addition to these issues, Irani said that under the MHRD we would soon launch a platform for free education in conjunction with IITs, IIMs, Central Boards and Universities.
The HRD Minister said on Tuesday that the results of CBSE Board exams for class X and XII will be declared by the end of May and the state board results are also expected to be released by May 31.
The Minister interacted with the students on Facebook and assured that the CBSE results will be out on time. She interacted with the students for about an hour and was asked around 2000 questions. She added that the draft of the new education policy would be submitted soon.
On a demand to open universities in Jammu and Kashmir, Irani said that the J&K already had two central universities and her ministry is planning to open a new IIT.
