HRD intervention requested for errors in Class XII books

Dr. Arvind Goyal, a Chandigarh resident who runs a coaching institute for pre-medical entrance exams, has written to Smriti Irani, Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) minister, seeking the government’s intervention in rectifying errors in Class XII books by CBSE.

Dr. Goyal had previously approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court for highlighting flaws in the Class XI and XII Biology textbooks. Following this, he also initiated a representation to the CBSE on the issue of inclusion of ambiguous questions in the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) conducted on May 4, 2014.

It was due to this representation, the Board was forced to cancel three questions in the AIPMT paper which were based on the flaws. All candidates were awarded grace marks against these three questions.

However, Dr. Goyal later pointed out that there were six more errors for which CBSE has so far done nothing to compensate the students.

“There is stiff competition among students in AIPMT. If the CBSE acknowledges those erroneous questions then grace marks can be given to student”,” said Dr Goyal, Indian Express reports.
