Himachal Govt decides to do away with JEE Merit List for technical courses

The Himachal Pradesh government on Wednesday announced that it will do away with the JEE merit list when it comes to technical, professional, and vocational programs in all private aided as well as unaided institutes operating within the state.

For these institutes, Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is likely to be replaced by another Common Entrance Test (CET)  administered by the Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU). The move is expected to help many private technical education institutes to fill their seats much more easily.

In another critical move to facilitate rendering of government services in a thoroughly time bound manner, the cabinet chose to dump the obsolete practice of obtaining affidavits for multiple purposes. Self declaration on a plain paper will suffice from now on, decided the cabinet while also clarifying that affidavits could still be necessary in some cases where some Act or Rule makes them mandatory.

The cabinet also approved the framing of new rules titled Minor Minerals (Concession) and Minerals (Prevention of illegal Mining, Transportation and Storage) Rules, 2015, repealing the Minor Minerals (Concession) Revised Rules, 1971 and HP Minerals (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transportation and Storage) Rules, 2004. Under the proposed revamped rule, all agencies concerned in successful implantation of infrastructure projects will be given equal priorities.
