Government considering single entrance test for Engineering

HRD ministry considering single entrance test for Engineering Admissions

The Union HRD ministry is considering holding a single common entrance test like NEET, for engineering admissions across the country. According to the sources, the high level consultations have been held on making JEE main a single national level entrance test for engineering admissions.

The decision on single entrance test for engineering is expected to curb complaints regarding irregularities in the admission process and bring transparency.  There have been some complaints in the past and the HRD ministry is keen to bring more transparency in the system.

Various government and private engineering colleges may use the scores of the common test for the single entrance test. However, the proposed single test will be held for admissions from 2018 onwards.

Presently, the CBSE holds the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) exam for admission to various engineering colleges across the country.
