Government approves ordinance on NEET – States exempted in 2016

The Central government has approved the ordinance  to exempt the states from National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) this year. Once the ordinance is issued the state board students will not have to appear in NEET phase 2 on July 24. However, the students seeking admission to central government and private colleges will need to sit in the NEET phase 2.

The Ordinance will exempt state boards from common medical entrance exam for a year. Around 6.5 lakh candidates had already appeared in the NEET-1 exam on May 1 and the second phase of NEET is scheduled for July 24. Once the ordinance is issued, students of state government boards will not have to sit for NEET on 24 July. They, however, will have to become part of the uniform MBBS entrance exam from next academic session, government sources clarified.

Earlier the states raised various issues including those related to language and difference in the syllabus for students. They said the students of state boards will find it tough to appear for the NEET exam as early as July.
