Relief for JEE Main candidates is on its way as the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) after revising the AIR ranks, has extended its choice filling and locking deadline by one day. The new time and date is now 8 AM, July 14.
Candidates whose names are on the first round of seat allotment list are required to report on the same day itself. Once determined, the eligible candidates can lock their desired subjects and save them online on the CSAB-2014 website. It is mandatory for the candidates to take a print out of their locked choices and submit it at the time of admission. The print out contains exclusive details about the terms and conditions, to be signed by the candidate.
CSAB has announced that 6,400 seats are available for the general category, spread over 30 NITs, 10 IITs and 10-12 centrally funded institutes over the country.
It has been estimated that over 12.5 lakh students have appeared for the test out of which the students placed at general category is nearly 8 lakh. Out of the total seats, 7000 seats are available for category students.
The rankings are evaluated with a 60:40 weightage of the JEE (Main) score and class XII marks. JEE(Main) is the national/state level exams held for admissions in Bachelor of Engineering and Architecture. States like Maharashtra and Gujarat abolished their state entrance examination and is solely dependent on the JEE(Main) ranks for admissions into their state funded colleges. IITs were not too open about the idea of joining JEE and conducted a separate JEE (Advanced) exam.
