The Dental Council of India (DCI) has proposed a bridge course to help bachelors of dental sciences (BDS) candidates get MBBS degree. The proposal offers hope to thousands of jobless BDS across India who often take up jobs in other sectors.
According to the DCI president Dr.Majumber, while participating in the George’s Medical University’s dental faculty foundation day function, the said proposal has been framed with the help of Medical Council of India(MCI) and will be submitted to the ministry of health and family welfare for consideration.
As per reports, on one hand over 85% positions of physicians at the community health center level are lying vacant, while over 15,000 dental graduates in India are struggling for jobs. The bridge course appears to be one solution for both the problems.
It may be noted that a bridge course for MBBS doctors wanting to become dentists is already in place. The MBBS to BDS condense course will allows them to take up PG courses in dentistry later.
