CBSEs revaluation decision might change fate of AIPMT aspirants

The fate of lakhs of students who appeared in the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) is at stake till 7 July. A major twist is expected in the merit list if the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) considers revaluation of the faulty questions. Depending on the result of revaluation, free intake and counseling for the MBBS seats will also be considered.

The CBSE’s decision for revaluation came in the awake of a PIL filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court that challenged the ambiguity of six questions carrying 30 marks in biology.

Dr Arvind Goyal, the petitioner said “The court directed the CBSE to consider and decide regarding the representation within one week from 18 June”.

However, the change in marks is certainly going to affect the merit list. As per the directions issued by the SC, all medical colleges should complete their counseling by 25 June.

The counseling has been postponed in the state of Uttar Pradesh following the incident of the leak of question papers. Students on the borderline can hope for a new lease of life due to the change in marks.

The petitioner also confirmed that had the CBSE considered their request on 11 June, the revision of the merit list would have been completed before the counseling.
