CBSE – teachers not to be engaged in non-academic activities

CBSE issued circular to schools for teachers in non academic activities

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular to all its affiliated schools stating that teachers should not be engaged in non-academic activities. CBSE stated that the teachers should be engaged only in activities like teaching, evaluation and conduction of exams.

The Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) meeting headed by Union HRD minister and representatives from all the states and UT’s raised the issue of teachers being engaged by schools in non-academic activities. CABE is the country’s highest advisory body in the field of education. The circular issued by CBSE stated that as per the Right to Education Act teachers should not be engaged in non-academic activities except those related to the census, disaster relief work or election duties.

The circular also stated that teachers can only be involved in direct teaching, professional up-gradation and conducting examinations etc. For the non-academic activities, the schools should appoint separate staff. CBSE said that it is the responsibility of the Principal of the school or Secretary of the society or trust running the school to ensure that the norms are followed in this regard.
