The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the proficiency test for class X students will be held between April 14 and 18 next year.
The optional proficiency test for students of class X will be held between April 14 and 18 next year, announced the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The test will be for only those students who will be appearing in their Std X final exams in March 2014.
The primary objective behind this optional proficiency test, according to the Board, is to include benchmarking of skills and higher mental abilities of students, thereby motivating them for academic improvements in their respective subjects. The proficiency test will also help schools to learn more about their students, which in turn could be immensely helpful for smooth execution of crucial operations such as planning, setting goals and priorities, institutional improvement, and so on.
The test will be held in all of the five primary subjects studied by students of class X. This essentially means that there will be one separate test for each individual subject.
Each test shall be conducted on a single day and they will be administered on the same day across all participating schools.
The CBSE has already announced that the total duration of each test shall not be more than 2.5 hours. Each paper will carry 100 marks in multiple choice questions from the IX-X syllabus. Because there will be negative marking, students are strictly advised by the board not to answer those questions which they are not sure about.
All students appearing in the exam will be awarded a certificate by CBSE featuring the percentile score.
Applications for the optional proficiency test must be submitted before Dec 31 2013. However, the Board has clearly stated that all application forms must be routed through schools. The exam fee will be paid by students whereas schools will be responsible for fetching information on the various modes of payment and the precise amount.
