CBSE to organize Cryptic Crossword contest for Classes IX to XII

Starting next month, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will organize a contest dubbed Cryptic Crossword Contest -2014 for students of classes IX to XII.  The primary purpose behind the contest is to help students improve their analytic thinking, analytic skills, vocabulary, and reasoning.

The city round of the competition, to be held across the country, will kick start in Ranchi on 16 July, 2014. For CBSE students in Chandigarh, the date has been fixed at September 6.

As per the board circular, affiliated schools located within the city as well as in the vicinity can take part in the contest.

At the city level, each team comprising of two students will be required to solve a written cryptic crossword puzzle within duration of 30 minutes. The winner and the runner up teams will be awarded with prizes and certificates and will simultaneously move to the quarter final round which will be organized in the city of Delhi from the month of December.

In the quarterfinal round, the chosen teams from the city will have to write a cryptic crossword puzzle to be solved in 30 minutes.

From this level, eight highest ranking teams along with the eight teams from the CBSE region will qualify for the semi final. In this round, the 16 qualifying teams will be placed in four groups of four teams each. The teams will then participate in four separate onstage cryptic crossword contest of 60 minutes. The round will be purely based on a power point format.

The winning team at the national level will receive a cash prize of INR 25,000 each along with trophies and certificates. The runner up will be awarded with a cash prize of INR 15,000, while the award for those securing third and fourth spots have been fixed at INR 10,000.
