The Central Board of Secondary Education informed the Supreme Court on Thursday its decision to introduce a uniform question paper for the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in all the languages from the current academic year.
NEET is the common entrance examination for admission to MBBS and BDS courses. It was introduced in 2017 when the SC made it compulsory for all the undergraduate courses offered in all the medical institutions across the country.
The decision was made after several petitions were filed regarding the difference in the difficulty levels of the question papers. It had appeared so that the questions in the eight regional languages were more difficult in comparison to those in English and Hindi.
Tarachand Sharma, CBSE counsel, told the bench that the question paper will be translated into regional language and the paper will have questions in both, English and the vernacular languages.
