The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is launching a Competitive Writing Series for students using social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Not only the board plans to promote the “virtual” event using social media, but it will also declare the winners based on peer voting and popular choices.
“It is not merely a competitive activity. It will encourage students to learn from sources like blogs or wikis. Social media like Facebook and Twitter will be extensively used to popularize submitted entries and also for selection of winning entries through peer voting,” said Sadhna Parashar, Director (academics, training, research and innovation).
There are two different modes of participation. While interested students can submit their work online directly to CBSE, schools will also be allowed to organize the activity offline and then send over the entries to the email ID: firstname.lastname@example.org .
The writing series will commence on August 5, 2014 and will continue till August 11, 2014. CBSE will announce fresh topics every day during these seven days. The topic will revolve around Pingalu Venkayya, freedom fighter and designer of the Tri-color. Participants can submit their entries in English, Hindi or Telugu. There was a practice test on Monday to familiarize interested students with the entire process.
The name of the winner will be announced on August 12. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of INR 20,000 alongside a trip to New Delhi.
“The top 68 entries will get a prize of Rs 5,000 each. All participants will also get an online participation certificate. Among them 14 will be selected as winners and would get an all expense paid trip to Delhi along with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 each. Among them six will be selected on the basis of popular choice through various social sites and the rest would be selected by an expert panel,” said Parshar.
