In a notice by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) the heads of the organizations and institutions have been notified about the conduct of the Problem Solving Assessment (PSA) for classes IX and XI for the 2014- 15 academic session on November 20, 2014 (Thursday). The test will be held from 10.00am to 12.00 noon.
Dr. Sadhana Parashar, Director– Academics, Research, Training and Innovation, notified the principals in the notice about the importance of the skills of verbal communication, analytical reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, decision making and generic skills. She mentioned the role that these skills play in being successful in the personal as well as professional front.
The board had commenced with the PSA in February 2013 and the course has been widely accepted and appreciated by at the stakeholders.
The PSA is compulsory for all students of Classes IX and XI. The test will be a bilingual test which will comprise of 60 MCQ questions of one mark each. The test will be assessing the candidate’s ability to process, interpret and use information rather than assessing their prior subject matter knowledge. The test is designed to test the students in English or Hindi which includes items to test grammar, usage, vocabulary in context and passage completion.
The PSC score is to be counted towards FA4 which is 10 per cent of the total assessments for class-IX. This score will be reflected equally in one language (English or Hindi), Mathematics, Science and Social Science. A separate certificate will be issued for Class XI students.
Students of the current session for Classes X and XII (who appeared in PSA while studying in classes IX and XI during the previous session) who wish to improve in PSA will be allowed to do so. There will be no need for a separate registration for appearing in PSA and only a nominal fee of Rs.100/- per student will have to be submitted by the school at the time of submission of other details.
