The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has urged schools affiliated to it to stick to National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks for all classes. The CBSE took this step after receiving complaints from parents that they were pressured by schools to buy an excessive number of textbooks other than the NCERT ones.
The board had already issued instructions on April 12 that schools need not look beyond NCERT books as the material forms the base for the board exams. The CBSE question papers are set according to the prescribed syllabus in the NCERT books.
The board said free NCERT e-books can be availed from www.epathshala.nic.in and www.cbse.nic.in.
