The central government told the Lok Sabha that it had received complaints about mis-utilization of funds in Uttar Pradesh’s post-matric scholarships for students belonging to Scheduled Castes. Apparently, the scam was being carried out through some “fake non-governmental organizations”.
India emerged as largest recipient of UK government’s student Scholarships after the European nation announced its decision to quadruple the global scholarship funding for Indian students in the next two years.
To protect the interest of students and reduce the scopes for any potential harassment, government announced that all central scholarships from now on will be pushed straight into students’ bank accounts under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) program.

The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships facilitate knowledge sharing, strengthen mutual understanding between Indian and Australian scholars and build international networks.
In order to be deemed eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must pass class XII from CBSE in the year 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Moreover, the candidate has to be awarded with the CBSE’s central sector scholarship.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the date of submission for the online applications for two of its Scholarship Schemes for 2014. The dates for both the CBSE Merit Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child and the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship have been extended till September 30, 2014.
The websites of the sponsors of both the exams confirmed that SAT will be held on June 07 and June 14 has been declared as the final date for the ACT test. Students should register on or before May 09, 2014 for both the examinations. Registration remains open through Friday for the SAT.
Gajanan Kharate, Faculty Dean, Pune University’s Engineering spoke to the media and informed that the move has been influenced by Supreme Court’s April 13 judgement that reduced regulatory powers of AICTE in favour of the UGC. As per Kharate, students who have qualified GATE are receiving a scholarship of Rs 8,000 per month from AICTE. However, with the change in regulatory authority, UGC might re implement the scholarship scheme for students with ME or MTech degree.
CSIR UGC NET June 2014 Application starts on February 10. The application process for Joint CSIR UGC NET JRF June 2014 begins on February 10, 2014, last date for applying is March 4, 2014.
