The Government will consult different states to decide on conducting a National Eligibility cum Engineering Test (NEET) like entrance test for admission to engineering programmes. The proposal of conducting a single entrance test for engineering was discussed at a high-level meeting of All India Council of Technical Education held on Wednesday.
After the conduct of NEET 2016, a widespread support has been received from the participants for a similar examination for engineering admissions. The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) will consult the states for holding a single entrance examination for engineering.
The central government believes that this will reduce the irregularities and increase transparency in the admission process. A single entrance test will also decrease the burden of appearing n different examinations for admission to engineering courses in different states.
Another proposal of making an exit test mandatory for students was also discussed in a high-level meeting of AICTE. These proposals are expected to be discussed at the next meeting of AICTE to be held after consultation with different states.
