The registrations for Maharashtra Engineering common entrance test have shown a marginal increase this year as 23000 more students have registered for the MHT CET. A total of 2.68 lakh candidates registered for the test last year while 2.91 lakh candidates have registered for the test this year. MHT CET is scheduled to be conducted on May 11, 2017 as reported in TOI
The rising demand for professional courses and the fear of a single engineering entrance exam from next year may be the reasons for the increase in registrations. The DTE Maharashtra also conducted orientation programmes from principals and teachers in junior colleges to create awareness regarding options for professional programmes.
The number of vacant seats may drop this year with more number of registrations and fewer seats. Out of a total number of 3.85 lakh registered candidates, 94,250 applied for pharmacy only and 1.42 lakh candidates registered for engineering only. A total of 1.48 lakh will appear for both engineering and pharmacy.
In the year 2016, total 4.09 lakhs students registered for the MHT CET exam. However, it included students who also wanted to appear for the medical entrance exam. With NEET being made mandatory for admission to medical and dental courses, seeking a seat in engineering will be the top priority of 3.85 lakh students.
