Indian Navy to consider JEE mains score for 10 plus 2 BTech Entry

JEE mains scores to be considered for Indian Navy 10+2 BTech Entry

Indian Navy Technical Entry

The Indian Navy to consider JEE mains scores instead of class XII marks for shortlisting the candidates for 10+2 B.Tech entry scheme. The candidates will be shortlisted for the 10+2 B.Tech scheme only on the basis of JEE main rank. JEE main is an all India entrance examination conducted for admissions into engineering courses at the IITs, NITs and other centrally funded institutions.

Earlier, the Indian Navy implemented plans to offer B.Tech degrees to the new officers, apart from the military and leadership skills when they graduate from the Indian Naval Academy, Kerala. The marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class XII will not be considered for this scheme.

The state examination boards have gone berserk in awarding high marks to their students in Class XII. Due to this, the Indian Navy has found very uneven quality of candidates coming for the SSB Interview and training.

The CBSE has agreed to share the JEE Main ranks with the naval academy which is considered a better benchmark for selection of candidates. As the government has also approved the move, the aspirants will have to appear in the JEE mains 2017 to be eligible for entry into Indian Naval Academy for the January 2018 course.

The first B.Tech officers direct entry batch passed out of the Indian Naval Academy in 2013. Since then, Indian Navy has been tweaking three officer entry schemes.

Under the first scheme, 78 Naval Cadets after clearing the UPSC exam and SSB interview undergo the three-year course at the tri-service National Defence Academy (NDA) at Kadakwasla (Pune) every year. Then after another year of intensive training at the INA they get commissioned as officers with B. Tech degrees.

In the second entry, around 110 candidates join INA directly after clearing UPSC exams in two batches for the four-year B Tech programme every year. Under the third scheme that is 10+2, B.Tech entry scheme, around 120 candidates will be selected for the SSB interview on the basis of JEE mains scores only.

The Indian Navy has decided to consider the JEE mains scores for this entry as it needs a strong cadre of quality officers with strong technical expertise for handling the hi-tech systems, sensors and weapons.
