Call for Applications – 10th Batch Women Scientists Scheme-C (WOS-C) KIRAN-IPR 2018


The Women Scientists Scheme (WOS-C) is a flagship Program of KIRAN Division of Dept. of Science & Technology (DST). Through one of its components – ‘Women Scientists Scheme (WOS-C)’ – it provides one year on-the-job training in the area of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)


The Women Scientists Scheme (WOS-C) has been evolved by the Government of India, Dept. of Science & Technology (DST) for providing opportunities to women scientists who desire to return to mainstream science and work in the area of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)


WOS-C scheme aims to train women having qualifications in science/ engineering / medicine or allied areas in the area of IPR and their management for a period of one year. The training will allow them to work from their homes and thus maintain a good balance between professional and domestic demands


The scheme is being implemented by Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC) of Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC) on behalf of DST


About 500 women have already been trained under this scheme, out of which 200 have cleared the Patent Agent Examination conducted by the Patent Office of India. Sixty percent of these women are pursuing their career in the area of IPR. Some of them are self-employed and have become entrepreneurs

Empower talented and skilled women who have studied science, engineering, medicine and allied areas to contribute effectively in the advancement of science and technology in the country

Train talented and meritorious women in laws related to protection of intellectual property (IP), management of IPR, determination of novelty and originality of IP, ascertaining patentability of an invention, searches of databases related to patents and allied databases and other aspects of IPR; enabling them to seek specialized employment or be self employed

Develop a core of professionals for preparing specialized reports based on IPR such as technology scan and freedom to operate reports


Eligibility Criteria 

Women with Indian citizenship

Minimum essential qualification: Master of Science; Bachelors in Engineering/Technology or equivalent.

Age Limit: Minimum 27 years; Maximum 45 years as on 01st January 2018

Desirable: a) Proficiency in handling computerized database, collection, collation, analysis and report preparation (b) basic understanding of various IPR aspects & issues with logical aptitude towards scientific developments across the world and experience in research, preparation of project reports, term papers and similar activities

Note: a) Women in permanent position are not eligible to apply and b) those who have already undergone training (partially or fully) in any of the earlier batches or those who are undergoing training in the ongoing batch are not eligible to apply


Selection & Training Procedure 

An on-line examination will be conducted at various centres throughout the country. Based on exam merit, candidates will be called for interview for final selection. During training, selected candidates will undergo orientation program on IPR at New Delhi for one month. After orientation, candidates will be placed as Interns in and around the

Coordination Centres at Delhi, Pune, Chennai, and Kharagpur for hands-on-training



MSc in Basic or Applied Sciences/ BTech/ MBBS or equivalent degree Rs.20000/- pm

M.Phil/ MTech/ M.Pharma/ MVSc or equivalent degree Rs.25000/- pm

PhD in Basic or Applied Sciences or equivalent degree Rs.30000/- pm
