National Fellowship for Person with Disability 2018 - University Grants Commission invites application for the award of 200 Fellowships for Person with Disability for the year 2017-18.  Under the scheme of National Fellowship for Person with Disability to undertake advance studies and research in Science, engineering and technology, Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian University and colleges for pursuing full time studies leading to M.Phil. & PhD Degree

Govt. of India has launched a Central Sector scheme namely, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) during the financial year 2012-13 to increase opportunities to students with disabilities for pursuing higher education leading to degrees such as M.Phil. & PhD

National Fellowship for PWD

  • University Grants Commission has started to give scholarships in all categories. Their main aim is to provide education for all; no students should drop out from the study due to financial problems. Therefore, they are providing this scholarship for students.

Eligibility Criteria for National Fellowship for PWD 2018

  • Any student with disabilities who has been admitted to M.Phil./PhD degree in a University or academic institution by completing the required formalities for admission in that University or academic institution is eligible for the award of Fellowship, subject to provision of the scheme as per the advertisement of UGC
  • Candidate must get himself/herself registered for M.Phil./PhD at the first available opportunity but not later than within a period of two years from the receipt of award letter; this period is not extendable
  • After two years, if the progress in the research works of the awardees is found satisfactory, his/her tenure will be extended for a further period of three years as Senior Research Fellowship (SRF)
  • A three-member committee set up by the University will assess the research work
  • The committee will consist of the Supervisor, Head of the Dept. and one outside expert in the subject; JRF may be terminated in case the committee does not find the progress of the candidate satisfactory
  • The SRF shall be sanctioned on year to year basis on the recommendation of the Supervisor of the candidate duly accepted/rejected by the Head of the Dept. and finally approved by the Vice-Chancellor
  • The total period of award of JRF and SRF shall not exceed a period of five years; the fellowship is paid from the date of registration of the students in M.Phil. /PhD Course

Scope of the Scheme

  • The scheme caters total number of 200 Fellowship [Junior Research Fellows (JRF)] per year to students with disabilities. The scheme covers all universities/institutions recognized by the UGC and Non Universities/Institutions and is implemented by the UGC itself on the pattern of the scheme of UGC Fellowship being awarded to research students pursuing M.Phil. & PhD
  • These fellowships will be available to students with disabilities who are covered under "The Persons with Disabilities" (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995

Amount of Fellowship

  • The candidate would be eligible for following financial assistance:
  • Fellowship (For All Subjects): Rs.16000/-p.m. for initial two years and Rs.18000/-p.m. for remaining tenure
  • Contingency (For Humanities, Social Sciences and Commerce): Rs.10000/-p.a. for initial two years and Rs.20500/-p.a. for remaining tenure
  • Contingency (For Sciences and Engineering & Technology): Rs.12000/-p.a. for initial two years and Rs.25000/-p.a. for remaining tenure
  • Departmental Assistance & MANF]: Rs. 3000/- p.a. per student to the host institution for providing infrastructure
  • Escorts/Reader assistance: Rs. 2000/- p.m. in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates
  • HRA: As per rules of the University/Institutions


Selection Process

  • Selection will be made on merit basis.

  • The application in the prescribe format may be submitted only through online mode within 2 months from the date of publication of advertisement (not extendable by logging on to website www.ugc.ac.in/nfpwd
