PORTUGUESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Applications (in duplicate) addressed to the Deputy Secretary (Scholarships), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Secondary Education & Higher Education, E.S. Section, A-1/W.3 Curzon Road Barracks, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi-110001 are invited on the proforma from the Indian nationals residing in India for the following categories of scholarships offered by the Government of Portugal for the specified academic year, so as to reach this Ministry on the address given above by the month of March of the year.
(A) two (2) research scholarships to postgraduates in Portuguese Language and Culture for a period not exceeding twelve months each:
- Duration: Each scholarship will have a duration not exceeding 12 months.
Qualification: Scholarships, not renewable, are meant for Postgraduates, University Teachers and artists who know Portuguese Language and who wish to undertake research in Portuguese Language & Culture. Applicants should possess Master’s Degree in the concerned subject. Only the candidates who have secured admission/acceptance in Portuguese Institute/University may apply. The applicants should not be more than 45 years of age.
Scholarships Allowances: The Government of Portugal will pay an amount of PTE 100.000 (Equivalent to INR 24,000).
Documents to be Attached: (i) Attested Photostat copies of all degree/certificates showing educational qualifications and their respective translation in Portuguese. (ii) A copy of date of birth certificate. (iii) Proof of knowledge of Portuguese Language. (iv) No Objection Certificate and re-employment Certificate from the employer, if employed. (v) Two letters off recommendations duly identified and with the post they hold in the institution where the candidate is studying. (vi) Document of acceptance of the candidate in the Portuguese Institution where he/she proposes to carry out the research or a declaration signed by the University Professor in Portugal under whose guidance the candidate intends to study. (vii) Medical Certificate from Registered Medical Practitioner (MBBS) showing physical and mental fitness of the candidate. (viii) A duly structured and detailed research plan. (ix) Declaration on the part of the candidate that during the period of the grant he/she will not avail of any other financial help, scholarship or subsidy. (x) Curriculum/Biodata of the candidate. (xi) Declaration that to-and-fro International Passage Cost will be borne by the candidate, or his/her sponsors/employers.
(B) six (6) Scholarships, of eight months duration, for pursuing Annual Course in Portuguese Language and Culture to the students enrolled in the course of Portuguese in India Universities.
Eligibility Conditions: (i) The Applicants must be enrolled for Portuguese studies in any Indian University. (ii) Good knowledge of Portuguese Language.
- Documents to be Attached: (i) Applicant’s Curriculum. (ii) Attested photocopies of educational qualifications and their respective translation into Portuguese. (iii) A declaration on the part of the candidate that during the period of grant he/she will not avail of any other financial assistance, scholarship or subsidy during the validity of Scholarship. (iv) Declaration to the effect that to-and-fro International Passage Cost will be borne by the candidate or his/her sponsors/employers. (v) No Objection Certificate and e-employment Certificate from the employer, if employed. (vi) Recommendation letter by two teachers, duly identified and with the indication of the post they hold in the institution where the candidate is enrolled.
- Scholarship Allowances: The Government of Portugal will pay an amount of PTE 90,000 (Eqv. INR 22,200). Candidates are exempted from payment of registration and tuition fees.
Last Date: last date of receipt of applications is a date of March.
Notes: (1) Application received after the last date will not be entertained. (2) Incomplete applications will not be considered. (3) In case of candidates qualifying from Universities/Institutions which do not give class or division/requirements in lieu of first Class will be 60% marks, where grades are awarded the candidates must indicate the conversion formula. (4) Application of candidates who reside abroad will not be entertained. (5) Candidates who have already been abroad for studies/training either on Scholarship or on their own for a period exceeding six months are eligible to apply only if they have been in India for at least three consecutive years after their return from abroad. (6) The candidates should have sufficient knowledge of the geographical situation and cultural heritage of India and Portugal. (7) (a) The decision of the Selection Committee shall be final. (b) The applicants who do not receive interview call by a date of April may assume that they have not been eligible for the Scholarship by the Selection Committee. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained. (8) Candidates who do not possess the requisite qualifications need not apply.
