PGI Chandigarh MHA Admission July 2018 through Entrance Exam

Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh has invited applications for admission to Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) Courses for the academic session starting from 01st July 2018

Master of Hospital Administration

  • Admission to various postgraduate courses conducted at the Institute is made twice a year; the sessions commence from first January and first July each year
  • Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) course is made on merit through an entrance exam conducted by the Institute, after issuing countrywide admission notice

Eligibility Criteria

  • To be eligible for admission, a candidate must possess/fulfill the following qualifications/requirements:
  • Candidates must have passed MBBS, or its equivalent qualification, from a University/Institute recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) with three years experience after passing MBBS exam (or);
  • Candidates should have worked in State Medical Services, Armed Forces Medical Services, or other equivalent services for a period of five years in a hospital, which is approved for purposes of undergoing the compulsory rotating internship, or in a command hospital, failing which the aforesaid period of five years would be increased to seven years
  • Provided that in case of services in Armed Forces, this aforesaid period of 5-years shall be in addition to one year or compulsory rotating internship required for purposes of obtaining the MBBS degree and full degree and full registration (or);
  • Candidates should have worked as Medical Superintendent, or Deputy Medical Superintendent, in a Civil or Military Hospital for one year


Selection Procedure

  • Selection of candidates for the MHA course is a two-step process, with a theory exam followed by a practical exam (departmental evaluation)
  • The theory exam will consist of a paper with two parts (Part 1 - General, and Part 2 - Specialty), each with 40 marks
  • Part 1 will consist of 40 multiple-choice questions of MBBS level, each with four options and a single most appropriate response
  • Part 2of the paper will consist of 40 multiple-choice questions related to Hospital Administration, each with five options and single/multiple correct responses
  • Each question correctly answered in Part-1 will be awarded one mark, with no negative marking for wrong answers
  • Hence, there are a total of 200 response options. Candidates of various categories, who secure marks in the theory examination, as mentioned against each category, will qualify for departmental interview:
  • Open (General) and Sponsored/Deputed: 35 marks
  • OBC, SC/ST: 30 marks

Fees and Dues

  • The following dues are payable to the Institute, by the candidates admitted to the MHA course:
  • Registration Fee: Rs.500/-
  • Tuition Fee: Rs.250/- per annum
  • Laboratory Fee: Rs.900/- per annum
  • Amalgamated Fund: Rs.360/- per annum
  • Security: Rs.1000/- (refundable only after completion of course)
  • Hostel Security: Rs.5000/- (refundable) to the deposited with the Administrative Officer (Hostel) if hostel accommodation is allotted
  • The first installment of fees for six months is required to be paid immediately after selection


Duration of Course and Emoluments

  • The MHA course has a duration of two academic years; during this period, MHA Residents are entitled to emoluments as prescribed by Govt. of India
  • At present, this translates to a pay scale of Rs 15600-39100 (basic), and a grade pay of Rs.5400/-; non-practicing allowance is also paid as per rules


Application Process

  • Candidate should fill his/her online application form available on PGIMER website www.pgimer.edu.in. He/ She should fill all the fields/columns of the form. No fields/columns should be left blank
  • For SC/ST Candidates - Rs.800/-
  • For All Other Categories - Rs.1000/-
  • After filling application form, the candidate should deposit the application fee through challan form (triplicate) in any branch of SBI
  • Candidates can go to any Branch of State Bank of India with the fee Payment Challan duly filled in and pay the prescribed Application Fee in the “Power Jyoti” PUL current account of PGIMER
  • The Challan form is required to be filled up in the name of Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh (Exam) in the Power Jyoti Account No.32211613319 and those candidates who have SBI account can also pay their fee through i-collect service of SBI and I-collect Account No. is 32222954695
  • In that case the INB reference No. will have to be mentioned instead of Challan No. in the application form. The fees for GENERAL/OBC candidates is Rs.1000/- and for SC/ST Rs.800/- (indicating category i.e. General or SC/ST). Fee once deposited is non-refundable
  • No representation/request /demand for refund of application fees will be entertained if the candidate fails to apply within the stipulated time after payment of application fee
  • The application, sponsored category alognwith requisite certificates must reach the office of Registrar, PGIMER, Sector-12, Chandigarh-160012 before the last date of receiving the application
  • Dates for submission of online applications and Generation of Challan forms/payment from i-collect is from 01st April 2018 to 30th April 2018; however, State Bank of India will accept the fees of those applicants whose challan form is generated on or before 04th May 2018 upto 15:59 hours
