PGDM/PGDM (Retail Management) (July 2010)

(AICTE approved 2 year full time programme)

Post graduate diploma in management: PGDM (full-time) programme is duly approved by AICTE, ministry of HRD, govt of India. PGDM has been granted equivalence to MBA degree of an Indian university by AIU.

Under the PGDM programme, students undergo teaching and training in 30 compulsory papers and 12 specialization papers in areas such as; Marketing, Finance, Human Resource, and Information Technology

The programme is divided into four semesters. The first two semesters provide strong foundation in basic disciplines, and the remaining two semesters enable the students to specialize in their area of interest. The Programme equips each participant with the skill and competence to handle different kinds of managerial, technical and administrative corporate functions. The curriculum is updated every year to meet the industry requirements

Course objective: PGDM is meant to offer quality management education to all aspiring managers of tomorrow. The focus of this programme is to inculcate among the students such perceptions, knowledge, skills and abilities as would enable them to assume higher levels of responsibilities and embody the crucial link between knowledge and application, intellect and pragmatism. In the PGDM programme, we strike a balance between the science and art of management. We guide the students to innovate, yet keep the fundamentals in sight.

Eligibility: Bachelor degree (10+2+3) in any discipline from a UGC recognized university with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Candidates awaiting final year results may also apply.

Selection criteria: The applicants to this programme have to pass through a three-tier system of screening comprising of written test CAT or MAT, group discussion and Interview. Admissions are made on the basis of merit, based on their track record. The institute welcomes students from all over India and from various graduation streams like engineering, commerce, arts, science etc. This makes the PGDM batch a good blend of different streams to work together as a cohesive group.

The aim of the course is to fulfill the growing demand of the retail industry for trained retail professionals by nurturing the latent talent. This course aims to equip the students with the skills, creativity and knowledge and insight to understand retailing as a business management discipline. The participants will develop expertise in management and communication and exercise the skills required for retail operations. This course will provide quality professional education in the new and emerging area of Marketing, Communications and Management with specific focus on Retail

Course objective: World wide, the retail segment has performed exceptionally well since its inception in the 20th century. Retail is currently the biggest industry in the world and 25 of the top 50 fortune 500 companies are in the retail. India has approx 12 million retail stores. India is emerging as a hub of International Brands. It is forecasted by the industry sources that there would be a huge demand for trained professionals in the retail sector as India is in a take off stage and expect the share of organized retail to jump from current 2% to 10% by 2010.

The students have a wide choice of entry level positions for starting a career e.g. as a trainee manager in stock control, shop floor, sales, merchandising, administration, or purchasing and brand management.
