Undergraduate courses

The institution offers both 5 years and 3 years Honours degree courses in law
5 Year degree courses

  • B.A. LL.B [Hons.]
  • B.Com.LL.B. [Hons.]
  • B.B.A.LL.B. [Hons.]
  • B.C.A.LL.B. [Hons.]

An academic year is divided into two semesters consisting of 90 working days in each semester. The integrated Degree will be awarded only successful completion of the course. No split degree will be issued during the pursuance or on exit in the midst of the 5 year integrated course.
Intake: 156 (inclusive of NRI)
Non Resident Indians (NRI) Quota: Of the total number of seats 15% has been earmarked for NRI candidates. Unfilled NRI seats will be converted to general and filled as per merit.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A candidate should have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) OR its equivalent examination recognized by the Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai and should have secured not less than 70% of the total marks in the aggregate of all the subjects.
  • The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe communities should have secured not less than 60% of the total marks in the aggregate of all the subjects.
  • NRI candidates, who make a claim under the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) category, should have secured not less than 70% in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidates aspiring to apply for B.Com.LL.B.[Hons.] or B.C.A.LL.B.[Hons.] should have studied Commerce or Computer Science as a subject.
  • Age limit: There is no age limit.

 

3 year LL.B (Hons.) Degree course
Course Structure:

  • LL.B. [Hons.] Degree Course is of 3 years duration. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester consists of 90 working days. On successful completion of the course, LL.B. [Hons.] Degree will be awarded.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A candidate should have passed any Degree (UG) and should have secured not less than 60% of the total marks in the aggregate.
  • The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe communities should have secured not less than 55% of the total marks in the aggregate of all subjects.
  • In case of students who make a claim under the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) category, they should have secured not less than 60% in the qualifying examination.

Note:

  • The candidates should have Educational Qualification in the 10+2+3 format (through Regular Study)
  • The candidates who have completed 10+2 OR Graduation/Post Graduation through Open University System/Private Study directly without undergoing formal education is not eligible.
  • Employed candidates are not eligible to apply.
  • Age Limit: There is no age limit

 

Selection Process:

For 5 Years degree Programme:

  • The candidates applying for admission to the B.A.LL.B.[Hons.], B.Com.LL.B.[Hons.], B.B.A.LL.B. [Hons.] and B.C.A.LL.B.[Hons.] Degree Courses will be ranked according to the marks obtained by them in their qualifying examination excluding languages in Parts I & II and also on the basis of communal and special reservation as is prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu (G.O.Ms.No.83 Law (LS) Department dt.19.04.2007).

For 3 year degree Programme:

  • Admission to the three year LL.B.[Hons.] courses to be made only on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and following the rules of reservation of the State.
  • “The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in aggregate of all the subjects in the qualifying degree examination, excluding languages, may be taken into account. In case, where the language alone is the subject to qualifying examination, the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the said examination may be taken into account”. Post Graduate Courses

LLM Degree Courses;

  • The Tamilnadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University, through its Post graduate department imparts courses leading to award of LL.M. Degree under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The Post Graduate department offers LL.M. Degree in Nine specialized branches of Law. Periodically various Seminars/workshops/Symposiums are being conducted to give exposure for students pursuing the course. Placement avenues are created to benefit the final year students of the LL.M. Degree Courses.

LL.M. Degrees, under CBCS pattern, in the following Nine Branches:

  • Constitutional Law & Human Rights
  • Intellectual Property Law
  • International Law and Organization
  • Environmental Law and Legal Order
  • Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration
  • Human Rights and Duties Education
  • Labor Law & Administrative Law
  • Taxation Law

Intake and Reservation:

  • The number of students to be admitted in each branch of the L.L.M Degree course is limited to 20. For each of the branches, the reservation will be based as per the Reservation Policy adopted by the government of Tamil Nadu.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The general eligibility condition for admission to Master's Degree Programme is as per the UGC norms.
  • Candidates who have successfully completed a three year / five year undergraduate degree course in Law conducted by the University or equivalent thereto shall be eligible for admission to a Master’s Degree programme in any of the LL.M. courses. Candidate should have obtained a minimum of 45% of marks under New Regulations [40% under Old Regulations]. The candidates should have completed the course the formal education in the 10+2+3 format. Candidates who are awaiting results may also apply. Admission will be conformed only on production of all the original certificates.

Course Structure and Duration

  • The Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University offers LL.M. Degree Course under CBCS pattern. The course is of two years duration. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters (odd and even). Each semester consists of 90 working days which extends over a period of 15 weeks. The semester pattern is designed with continuous assessment system.

Application Fee:

  • The cost of the application is Rs. 1000/- (For SC (A)/ SC (o) & ST Rs. 500/-) candidates seeking application by post should remit Rs. 100/- in addition.

  • Applications can be obtained in person or by post from the “The Chairman, Law Admissions 2019-20, The Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, ‘Poompozhil’, No.5, Dr. D.G.S. Dinakaran Salai, Chennai – 600 028” and at Perungudi Campus, “M.G.R. Salai, Near Taramani MRTS Railway Station, Perungudi, Chennai-113” by paying prescribed fee from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on all working days. Candidates seeking application by post are requested to send a requisition letter, mentioning the course to which they are willing to apply with requisite fee.
