Exam Pattern of Combined Biotechnology Entrance Exam

Combined Biotech Entrance Exam (CBEE) is an entrance test conducted by Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU)  on behalf of the other participating universities for admission to M.Sc Biotechnology Programme.

The programmes are designed to expose the students to recent exciting developments in the area of genetic engineering and biotechnology and their exploitation in industry, agriculture and medicine.

Candidates are selected as per their performance in the entrance examination.  


Duration of the Entrance examination is of three hours and the questions are divided into two parts:

Part I  includes Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of class 12 level. Questions are from the subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. 

Part I is of 60 marks (60 questions x 1 mark each).  Candidate is required to attempt all the 60 questions. Candidate will lose ½ (half) mark, as negative marking for each wrong answer.

Part II will have bachelor’s level Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) which requires thinking and analysis. The asked questions are from Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology (e.g., Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics and Molecular Biology). 

It consists of 60 compulsory questions which is of 3 marks each (180 marks). 1 mark is deducted as negative marking for each wrong answer.

The Entrance Exam for M.Sc Biotechnology is conducted nearly in the month of May and results are provided in the month of June/July of the same year.
