ARS Exam - 2016 in combination with National Eligibility Test (NET-I) 2017

The Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) will hold a combined ARS-2016(Preliminary) and NET (I)-2017 Examination during 16th May 2017 to 21st May 2017 in Online mode at 23 Centres across India in a staggered slot-wise exam format as per the Rules and Scheme of Exam indicated in this notification
The ARS-2016 (Mains) Examination will be conducted on 08th July 2017. Candidates are advised to read the notification carefully before filling the Online Application Form

ARS 2016 Eligibility Criteria

For Agricultural Research Service (ARS) - 2016:

The rules for the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) - 2016 Examination to be held by the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board are published for general information

Nationality:
A candidate must be either: (i) a citizen of India, or (ii) a citizen of Nepal, or (iii) a citizen of Bhutan, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar) Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India (or)
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Govt. of India

Age Limits:
A candidate seeking admission to the ARS Exam 2016 must have attained the age of 21 years but not have attained the age of 32 years as on 01st January 2017
In-service candidates of ICAR less than 45 years in age as on 01st January 2017 will also be eligible to appear subject to possession of prescribed qualifications
In-service candidates of the State Agricultural Universities less than 35 years in age as on 01st January 2017 will be eligible to appear for ARS subject to possession of prescribed qualifications

Upper Age Limit:
(i) Upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to SC or ST
(ii) Upto a maximum of 3 years in the case of candidates belonging to OBC, who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates, i.e. Non-creamy layer
(iii) For Divyang candidates, the upper age limit will be relaxable upto a maximum of 10 years. Candidates belonging to SC/ST and OBC who are also covered under the Divyang category will be eligible for grant of cumulative age relaxation under both the categories
(iv) For ARS the upper age limit for the candidates holding PhD Degree will be 35 years. Hence, the upper age limit for SC/ST/OBC/ Divyang candidates holding PhD Degree will be relaxable by a further period of 3 years
Thus, the maximum limit for SC/ST candidates in such cases will be 40 years, for OBC candidates 38 years and for Divyang candidate 45 years. In such cases the candidates should have obtained PhD degree on or before 08th Jul 2017, which is the qualifying date for holding Master’s Degree
(v) Up to a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January 1980 to the 31st December 1986

Educational Qualifications:

A candidate for the Agricultural Research Service must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in the concerned discipline with specialization as defined in Appendix-VI completed on or before 08th July 2017 from any Indian University incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 or he/she must have qualification from a foreign University recognized as equivalent to above by the Govt. of India

Candidates who have appeared at an examination, the passing of which would render them eligible to appear at the ARS-2016 Exam but have not been informed of the results, may apply for admission to the ARS-2016 Exam

Candidates who intend to appear at such a qualifying exam may also apply. Such candidates will be admitted to the ARS-2016 Mains Examination, if otherwise eligible but their admission would be purely provisional

Candidates having Master’s degree from a foreign University must attach a certificate of equivalence and recognition of that degree issued by the University Commission/ Govt. of India/ any other concerned Govt. of India/ Dept. or Agency

Examination for NET (I) - 2017

The rules for the National Eligibility Test (I) - 2017 Exam to be held by the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board are published for general information

Nationality:
A candidate must be either: (i) a citizen of India, or (ii) a citizen of Nepal, or (iii) a citizen of Bhutan, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar) Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Govt. of India
Age Limits:
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years as on 01st January 2017; there is no upper age limit for the National Eligibility Test

Educational Qualifications:

A candidate must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in the concerned Discipline and specialization completed on or before 08th July 2017 from any Indian University incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or he/she must have qualification from a foreign University recognized as equivalent by the Govt. of India

Number of Attempts:

For ARS-2016: The number of attempts for appearing in the Agricultural Research Service Exam will be limited to SIX for Unreserved category candidates (whether M.Sc/PhD) including the in-service candidates of ICAR; however, this restriction will not apply to SC/ST candidates who are otherwise eligible
The number of attempts for OBC category and PwD category (belonging to General/OBC category) candidates will be NINE

For NET-(I)-2017: The number of attempts for appearing in the NET will be limited to FIVE for all candidates (whether M.Sc./PhD) including the in-service candidates of ICAR; however, this restriction will not apply to SC/ST candidates, who are otherwise eligible
Application Fee:
General (UR)/Other Backward Class Candidates: For ARS-2016 - Rs.500/- only; for NET-2017 Rs.1000/- only and Both for Rs.1500/-
SC/ ST/ Divyang / Women: For NET (I) - 2017 - Rs.250/- only
Transaction charges for Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking/Challan payment, as the case may be, have to be borne by the candidate

ARS 2016 and NET 2017 Application Procedure

Candidates can fill the online application form on the official website of ASRB www.asrb.org.in
A candidate must read the provisions, contained in this Notification for Combined ARS-2016and NET (I) 2017 Exam carefully and abide by the same; a candidate must fulfil all the conditions of eligibility regarding age limits, educational qualifications, etc. prescribed for admission to the exam

Online Payment: Payment can be made through Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking from any Bank from 1000 hrs on 22nd March 2017 - 1700 hrs on 15th April 2017

For payment through challan only: Payment using the online Challan generated can be made during banking hours in any of the branches of the Syndicate Bank (list of the branches of Syndicate Bank can be obtained from the Branch locator link on www.syndicatebank.in
The candidates submitting the online application form on the last day of the registration will not be able to deposit the amount with any branch of Syndicate Bank after closing of banking hours. Accordingly, such candidates are advised to use other mode for payment of application fee
