Will CAT Exam 2020 move to IBT Mode?

CAT exam is being conducted each year by IIM for admission to PGDM and MBA courses throughout the country. Through this exam, candidates fulfill their wishes to study in top B-Schools. CAT exam eligibility is graduation with a minimum of 50% marks from any recognized university. When the CAT exam (MBA) is conducted through CBT mode regularly, it might be changed this year to IBT (Internet Based Test).

Every year IIM conducts the CAT exam for intake in the MBA/PGDM courses. It is conducted in 156 cities across the country. Over two lakhs students participate in the entrance exam for admission. This year CAT 2020 is being conducted by IIM Indore.
Now, the CAT exam date is November 29, 2020. It is conducted in two sessions – Morning & Afternoon. The exam is generally conducted in Computer-Based Test Mode. 20 IIMs, IITs, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, IMI, and more than 500 other colleges intake students based on the CAT score. The registration process for CAT 2020 will begin from the first week of August 2020.

As the admission process of the current batch is still in the process, the PGDM admission process for the year 2019-2020 is likely to be completed by August 17. The counselling for technical courses is said to be completed by October this year. This being said, if the current batch’s admission is getting delayed, it is likely for the CAT 2020 exam to get delayed as well.
According to research, Covid-19 cases will be at its peak in November 2020. This will make it difficult to conduct the CAT exam in normal CBT mode. There will be two options left – IBT mode or delaying the exam.

Due to Covid-19, exam centers for CAT exam date 2020 will be increased to maintain social distancing among students. TCS and IIM Indore want to conduct this entrance exam smoothly and without any hassle.
After July 31, it is expected that more relaxations will be given to everyone including universities and colleges. It might affect the decision of the conduction of the CAT exam in November.
With this pandemic still going on right now, students or aspirants might expect little changes in the CAT exam in the future. There are chances of the entrance exam being conducted in IBT mode. Some speculations suggest that the exam centers are going to increase this year to maintain social distancing norms.
In the case of exam pattern, exam timing, exam hours, cat exam paper, cat exam subjects, and exam syllabus, everything will remain the same, and students should prepare based on previous year papers and pattern of the exam.
