Yes I am Sure – Two JEE Main Exam in a year will be good for Engineering Aspirants.  There is a second chance without losing a year for those wish to join engineering. This is the exam they have to crack for admission in the NITs and other Centrally Funded technical institutes (CTFIs).  This is a plan that will be coming in 2015 that is aimed at relieving students of “make-or-break” stress. If it is accepted then all students will have something to be happy about.

The JEE Apex Board decides the joint entrance exam format, met early this week after considering the idea of holding the JEE-Main twice with a gap of two month interval between the tests  hence allowing students to improve on their performance.  The board is considering offering the test twice a year in January or February and then in April or May. It was reveled.

The whole idea is aimed at reducing the stress on the student as the JEE-Main was a make or a break. The second chance could help the student not to lose a year if they miss the first test due to unavoidable circumstances. Almost  12.5 lakh student took the test that was conducted by the CBSE and only 4.5 lakh made it to the final merit list that was made on the basis of 60:40 weigthage for the JEE-Main score and normalized board scores.

The top 1.5 lakh are the one allowed to appear for the JEE-Advanced, the test that IIT aspirants have to clear. If the two- exam suggestion are adopted the result of each candidate in any test they perform better will be considered in preparing the final merits.

On Tuesday meeting the JEE Apex Board however raised several concerns that include the timing of the first test that may be held on February might coincide with the board of exams in several states.  If the test will be held on January some may not be able to complete their full class XII syllabus. Also some student may find it difficult to move back to the states soon after the first test. This because most of the JEE-Main test center is in the state capital.

Experts have been in discussion about the issue if it will reduce stress among the student. An IIT teacher said that a repeat exam could increase stress as every candidate may try to improve on the marks. The teacher highlighted that the first chance will only be right for those who miss an exam for genuine reasons.

CBSE would seek the views of all in effect of the changes and any concern that will be raised will be put into consideration of the final decision. The procedure that was used which involved a percentile-based formula drew critics on several quarters this year.
